La Corne, April 3, 2023 – Quebec-based lithium producer Sayona had the privilege of welcoming Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to the North American Lithium (NAL) Complex. The Prime Minister took the opportunity to meet with workers and discuss the importance of the mining industry to the Canadian economy and its critical role in the energy transition.

Sayona recently started operations at the NAL Complex, in Abitibi-Témiscamingue. By processing concentrate, it has the potential to become a leader in the North American battery industry. NAL is a reliable source of lithium that will help Quebec and Canada as a whole to stand out as a serious supplier of sustainable natural resources capable of competing with other powers
such as China and Russia.

Sayona is proud to work with a government that is positioning itself as a world leader in clean energy through the electrification of transportation and the production of electric vehicles. For Sayona, it is reassuring to see the government secure its natural resources and prioritize local secondary processing. This vote of confidence in our industry is a springboard for our future projects and signals that Canada has a long-term strategic vision, aimed particularly at tertiary transformation.

“Prime Minister Trudeau’s visit at the North American Lithium Complex is proof of the Government of Canada’s confidence in our local lithium. We are proud to be developing such an essential industry for Canada according to the highest standards and using the most advanced technologies. By working together, we are positioning ourselves as the North American leader in the lithium industry, making Quebec and Abitibi-Témiscamingue a hub for the energy transition,” said Guy Belleau, Sayona’s CEO.

Sayona works with stakeholders to promote social and environmental responsibility in all of its operations. The Prime Minister’s visit was an opportunity to highlight the company’s sustainable practices and to reiterate its commitment to the energy transition and a greener economy.

Sayona was pleased to welcome Prime Minister Trudeau to the North American Lithium Complex and is committed to continuing its work with host communities to build a sustainable and responsible mining industry.
